The elections for the renewal of the governing bodies and the election of the new major patrons of the Galician brotherhoods will take place on Saturday, January 23, 2027.

This has been communicated by the conselleira do Mar, Marta Villaverde, during a meeting held this Wednesday with representatives of the pósitos, in which she presented the planned electoral calendar. Currently, there are 63 brotherhoods operating in Galicia, which group together about 13,000 workers of the sea and shipowners.

The constitution of the local electoral commissions responsible for organizing the elections is scheduled for the end of November 2026, while the general voting day will take place on January 23, "unless the candidates coincide with the number of members that need to be elected."

In this election, the vocal members of the general boards and the councils will be chosen, ensuring "representative parity between the groups of workers and entrepreneurs from the different production sectors," in addition to the governing bodies of the various sectoral associations.

After the election and the swearing-in of the major patrons and vice patrons throughout the month of February, the calendar will continue with the renewal of the executive committees and the presidencies of the three provincial federations at the beginning of March.

The process will culminate in early April 2027 with the proclamation and the swearing-in of the governing bodies of the Federación Galega de Confrarías de Pescadores.
