The general director of Gandaría, Agriculture and Agro-Food Industries, José Balseiros, has defended the Xunta’s commitment to the creation of pastures, after several woodland communities have requested its development.

As he detailed in the agriculture commission of the Parliament, the implementation of 10 new pastures is currently being considered, distributed across the four Galician provinces, which together total almost 153 hectares and will entail an investment close to 1.5 million euros.

He also advanced that for the 2027 financial year, a 4 million euro allocation is projected for this type of actions, of which 3 million euros will be directed toward new initiatives and 1 million euros will be reserved to complete those already underway.

These explanations were made in response to PP deputy Encarna Amigo, who had asked about strengthening support measures for extensive livestock farming in the mountain area of Lugo.

Fire law and biomass management

In the same session, BNG parliamentarian Monsterrat Valcárcel showed interest in the new regulations for fighting forest fires. "The PP does not listen, fines, and leaves those who put out the fire in precarious conditions," the nationalist said.

In the face of these criticisms, the general director of Defensa do Monte, Manuel Francisco, highlighted the agreement for biomass management in the secondary strips signed with the public company Seaga, which has an annual budget of 25 million.

As he recalled, a total of 301 town councils have already requested to join this agreement. He also stressed that, through this instrument, support is provided to local entities to carry out subsidiary actions on up to 10 hectares per municipality and year, outside the prioritized parishes, as well as for the cleaning of 12 kilometers of municipal roads and paths.
