Union of Unions of Farmers and Ranchers, coinciding with the peak of the summer season and the rebound of tourism this summer, has once again highlighted the weight of Spanish gastronomy as one of the great attractions for travelers, demanding at the same time an explicit recognition of the work of farmers and ranchers who make those foods possible, according to a statement.
The organization, which refers to the 6% increase in the arrival of tourists and the advance of tourist spending that, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism, could be around 64 billion euros, considers that this is a "good opportunity" to convey to visitors the relevance of the Mediterranean diet and the high quality of the products consumed in Spain.
In this regard, it emphasizes that a good part of this attraction lies in foods such as cheeses, meats, and wines that have quality certifications, as well as designations of origin or protected geographical indications, elements that endorse their origin and method of production.
Union of Unions maintains that gastronomy represents an "excellent showcase" to disseminate the quality and the conditions under which Spanish and European foods are produced. At the same time, it values the growing appeal of rural areas, which gain presence in tourist routes and constitute an essential source of wealth directly linked to agricultural and ranching activity.
In parallel, the organization reiterates that the Food Chain Law "is still not working" and qualifies it as "unfair" that, while the rest of the links in the chain increase their margins thanks to the flow of tourists and greater consumption through the Horeca channel, producers are not receiving compensation in the same proportion.
