The general secretary of PSOE Aragón, Pilar Alegría, has lashed out at the president of the Government of Aragón, Jorge Azcón, whom she accuses of questioning the cleanliness of the Spanish electoral system and of fueling suspicions about a possible electoral fraud ahead of the general elections on November 29.
Alegría made these statements after the meeting of the Regional Executive Commission of PSOE Aragón, held this Tuesday afternoon in Zaragoza, where the socialist leadership examined the electoral call and discussed the process for configuring the lists for Congress and the Senate.
The socialist leader reproached Azcón for aligning with other PP leaders who are calling into question the electoral system and mail-in voting, despite the fact that the same legal framework has allowed the Popular Party to govern in various autonomous communities and municipalities.
"Is he perhaps the president of Aragón through electoral fraud?" Alegría posed, recalling that the PP is running in these elections under the same rules whose legitimacy some of its officials are now questioning.
Pilar Alegría emphasized that it is particularly serious that these doubts come from the president of Aragón himself and described it as "as irresponsible as it is shabby" that parties participating in the elections and governing thanks to them are now questioning their validity.
Furthermore, the general secretary of PSOE Aragón stressed that this type of message is not limited to Azcón and mentioned statements in the same line from other PP officials, such as the mayor of Zaragoza or the president of the Community of Madrid. "We have first division trumpism within the Popular Party," she denounced.
"WITH DESIRE, WITH STRENGTH AND WITH ILLUSION"
During her speech, Alegría stated that PSOE faces the elections on November 29 with the goal of winning them and continuing at the helm of the Government of Spain. She claimed the policies promoted by the central Executive in this legislature and placed housing among the main problems affecting citizens.
In this line, she contrasted the measures promoted by the Government of Spain with the parliamentary rejection of the latest decrees on housing and with the position of the autonomous communities governed by the PP regarding the Housing Law.
Likewise, Pilar Alegría has defended that the elections will serve for citizens to choose between two different models in areas such as housing, public services, or coexistence, and has claimed, against the PP and Vox, a way of doing politics based on dialogue, agreement, and respect for those who think differently. The socialist Executive has also addressed the internal calendar for the preparation of the candidacies for Congress and the Senate.
Throughout this week, assemblies will be held to propose candidate suggestions, which will then be ratified and culminate with the Federal Committee scheduled for next October 17. When asked about her future, Alegría insisted that her commitment is in Aragón and that she will continue to develop her work from the regional opposition.
Regarding the names to integrate the lists, she emphasized that it is up to the membership to formulate proposals through the party's internal procedures. The call for general elections will also delay the processes to define the socialist candidacies for the upcoming municipal elections, which, as Alegría has indicated, will be resumed once the November 29 has passed.
