Zaragoza will celebrate this Sunday, October 11, the Ascent of the Virgin of the Pillar, the event with which the city prepares the floral structure of the Offering on Monday, October 12.
The ceremony will begin at 12:00 hours in the Plaza del Pilar and will consist of placing the image of the Virgin on the monument where the participants will deposit their flowers the next day.
The event was incorporated into the festive programming in 2024 and has gained attendance and prominence in recent years.
What time is the Ascent of the Virgin of the Pillar
The Ascent of the Virgin will take place on Sunday, October 11, at 12:00 hours.
The Zaragoza City Council has confirmed that it will be held in the Plaza del Pilar, where the structure intended to receive the flowers of the Offering will already be installed.
The ceremony will be one of the main traditional events of the eve of the feast of the Virgin of the Pillar.
Where it is celebrated and how to see it
The place of celebration is the Plaza del Pilar, in the center of Zaragoza.
The public will be able to follow the ceremony from the designated area of the square, subject to security conditions and the organization of the event.
The high attendance recorded in recent editions makes it advisable to take into account the time needed to access the center.
In 2025, according to the City Council, about 15,000 people attended the Ascent of the Virgin.
The music stars in the 2026 ceremony
This year's program includes a musical intervention with the participation of soprano María Eugenia Boix.
The Chapel of the Pillar, the Infantes of the Pillar, and organist Luis Antonio González, director of the Musicians of His Highness, will also be present.
With this format, the City Council seeks to reinforce the ceremonial content of the event, which has consolidated as one of the main appointments of the eve of the Offering.
When does the Offering of Flowers start
The Offering of Flowers will begin on Monday, October 12, at 06:30 hours.
Thousands of participants will walk through the center of Zaragoza to deposit their bouquets before the image of the Virgin of the Pillar.
The floral structure will be completed as the day progresses.
The Ascent on Sunday precisely prepares that scenario and allows viewing the image of the Virgin before the start of the Offering.
Tram cuts during the Pilar events
The ceremony on Sunday is held before the planned interruption of the central section of the tram, which will begin at 17:30.
On Monday the 12th, coinciding with the Offering, the cut between Plaza del Pilar/Murallas and Gran Vía will be extended from 05:00 until midnight.
The operator recommends checking the schedules and the stops in operation to organize the movements during the festivities.
The Offering of Flowers will be held on Monday the 12th, while the rest of the festive activities in Zaragoza will continue until Sunday, October 18th.
