The Government of Cantabria has committed to studying what actions are necessary to halt the "deterioration" of the six former teachers' houses located next to the Agapito Cagiga school, in Revilla de Camargo, and to establish a roadmap for their possible rehabilitation.

This was communicated by the Minister of Education, Sergio Silva, in response to a question from the PSOE in the plenary session of Parliament, where he admitted that the current state of the complex is "bad, very bad, regrettable".

Silva specified that these properties do not belong to the Government of Cantabria, but to the City Council of Camargo, as they are part of the legacy of Agapito Cagiga, and he emphasized that the houses are located outside the school grounds.

The Education official recalled that he visited the buildings last August 20 accompanied by the mayor of Camargo, Diego Movellán, and by the management team of the educational center, confirming on the ground their situation.

As he explained, the deterioration of the houses is due to the passage of time, the action of the weather, and the "absolute lack of maintenance for years".

The minister admitted that any action will require a substantial investment, which is why he has called for the joint involvement of the local, regional, and state administrations, in addition to the possible participation of the private sector.

From the Socialist Group, the deputy Daniel Gutiérrez, author of the question, requested details about the technical inspections carried out, the existence of risk assessments, and the measures put in place to prevent the deterioration from continuing to advance.

Likewise, he warned of the proximity of the buildings to the school and of the "possible danger" that detachments or the falling of construction elements could pose to students and pedestrians.

Gutiérrez highlighted the "historical, cultural and social" character of these buildings, linked to the educational memory of Revilla de Camargo, and asked whether the Executive is considering a rehabilitation project or some form of heritage protection.

In his response, Silva censured the fact that the previous regional Government, made up of PRC and PSOE, and the previous socialist municipal Government team did not promote maintenance actions during their terms in office.

To conclude, he has guaranteed that the current regional Executive will not "look the other way" and that it will strive to design a roadmap that makes it possible to intervene in the Agapito Cagiga school "as soon as possible" and in line with budgetary availability.
