The Minister of Development, Roberto Media (PP), has reiterated that the works on the new football field in Ampuero will get underway before the current regional legislature concludes.

Media made this announcement during his speech in the plenary session of the Parliament of Cantabria, where, in response to a question from the PSOE, he specified that the regional Government will allocate 5.4 million euros to this project, whose tendering will be carried out "soon" once the supervision of the technical project is completed.

The action includes the first two phases of the sports complex, which include the construction of a parking lot, a crossing work over the Rocillo stream, an artificial grass football field, as well as stands and changing rooms for users.

The head of Development recalled that it was the Town Hall of Ampuero that promoted the technical project, drafted in October 2025 and later approved by the municipal Plenary on April 28, 2026.

After that, the Governing Council agreed to the urgent occupation of the land on June 12 and, on October 27, the regional Executive received the certificate from the Town Hall that accredits the effective availability of the necessary plots.

According to what the consejero has indicated, the project was sent for supervision last Friday and, once this process is overcome, the specifications will be drawn up in order to put the execution of the works out to public tender.

Media has defended the management of the current Executive and has attributed the delays "to the lack of foresight" of the original project, promoted in the previous stage of the PSOE municipal Government.

In this line, he has explained that the channeling project of the Asón river affected the old football field and "did not contemplate an alternative solution or the necessary financing to build a new facility".

Likewise, he has highlighted that the Government of Cantabria has contributed an additional 3.4 million euros to finish the channeling works, cover the expropriations and assume modifications linked to an electricity line.

In total, the consejero has calculated at around nine million euros the investment committed by the Executive in Ampuero, adding the hydraulic actions and the future construction of the new sports facilities.
