The procurator of Unión del Pueblo Leonés (UPL), Luis Mariano Santos, has held the Minister of Mobility, Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence, Cristina Sanchidrián, responsible for limiting herself to “patching” the Salamanca-212 road (SA-212) and has predicted “little political future” for her during the Plenary Session of the Cortes of Castilla y León. The minister has replied that the route forms part of the Junta’s planning and that in 2027 investment in roads in the province will be increased.

During the session, Santos recalled the approval in 2025 of a Unión del Pueblo Leonés Proposición No de Ley (PNL) to undertake the comprehensive repair of the stretches in the worst condition of the SA-212. He reproached that the initiative remained blocked for 15 months before reaching committee and criticized that the Junta limited itself to repainting the horizontal signage between Linares and Escurial after the matter was made public in the press.

The León representative pointed out that, in the stretch between Linares and Tejeda, the “potholes, the sinkholes and the ruts” with water still remain, and he added the poor condition of the built-up areas of Escurial and Linares. He also criticized that the works between Fuentes de Bejar (Fuente Roble de Salvatierra) and Guijuelo are left as “patches” that do not correct the bounce of the road surface or the danger, and for this reason he asked Sanchidrián whether comprehensive repair is included in the 2027 accounts.

In her response, the Mobility minister emphasized that Salamanca is the province that most increases funding for roads in 2027, with more than 7.7 million euros. She admitted that the specific action on the SA-212 does not appear explicitly in the draft Budgets project for the next year, but she denied that the road is being abandoned or that there is passivity on the part of the regional Administration.

Sanchidrián explained that in May 2025 the Junta renovated the pavement on 7.7 kilometers between Endrinal and Tamames, that in December work was carried out on the stretch prior to the bypass of Fuentes de Bejar, and that throughout 2026 the conservation teams began repairing sinkholes between Guijuelo and Endrinal.

She also stated that the renewal of the road surface between Guijuelo and Endrinal and between Endrinal and Tamames is currently being processed, and she recalled that there is a study order and a project already drafted, pending supervision, for the rest of the route.

The adviser has argued that public management requires "preparatory work, the study of alternatives and verification of budget availability in the face of limited resources", and has urged the UPL procurator to indicate what other provincial or regional item of spending it would eliminate in order to carry out the demanded work immediately.

In his turn of rejoinder, Santos has maintained his claim regarding the SA-212 and has insisted on conveying to Sanchidrián that he does not foresee a "political future" for him after acknowledging the infrastructure's shortcomings.

In the rejoinder, Sanchidrián has ironically thanked the UPL procurator for his concern about his future and has reiterated that his Department will press ahead with the scheduling of actions on the road network by applying criteria of rigor and responsibility.
