The vice-first secretary and spokesperson of the PSC, Lluïsa Moret, has defended that the agreement reached with the Comuns, by which they withdraw their list for the Senate for Girona, Lleida, and Tarragona, aims to confront the "instrument of democratic regression and institutional control" that, she claims, represents the pact between PP and Vox in the Upper House.

In a press conference this Tuesday, once the understanding was formalized, Moret criticized that the popular party has "fully adopted the postulates and positions of the far-right Vox" by renouncing to present their own candidacy in Tarragona and Girona.

"We will be surprised to see, for example, the president of the PP in Catalunya, Alejandro Fernández, in Tarragona picking up the Vox ballot to vote for the Senate," Moret indicated, who considered this image as the maximum expression of the PP's concession to Vox.

In this scenario, she claimed the joint response of Comuns and PSC to "defend the rights and freedoms of the Catalans, the self-government of Catalunya, plurality, cultural diversity, and the language," which she considers at risk due to the advance of the far-right.

"They (PP) make deals for Vox to advance and we make deals for Catalunya to advance," Moret emphasized, warning of the reactionary, authoritarian, and regressive proposals that, in her opinion, the PP adopts by ceding its political space to the formation of Santiago Abascal.

"THEY ARE THE SAME"

The socialist spokesperson also stressed that the agreement between both formations shows that PP and Vox "are the same" and lamented, in particular, that the popular party has chosen to renounce to play a proper role in Catalunya.

In this line, she assured that the PP has "decided to make itself small in Catalunya," renouncing that territory and leaving it, according to her, in the hands of the far-right, which has prompted the reaction of progressive forces to come to its defense.

Regarding the development of the pact, she postponed any discussion about specific names until after the general elections and specified that, for now, the agreement focuses on "guaranteeing the voice" of Comuns in the Senate, while these forces call to concentrate the vote on the PSC.
