Madrid enters the big San Isidro 2026 weekend with the city dedicated to its most traditional festival. La Pradera is once again the heart of the celebration, but the program is spread across several points of the capital: Plaza Mayor, Las Vistillas, Matadero Madrid and other municipal spaces concentrate concerts, open-air dances, family activities, traditional dances and gastronomic proposals.

The big day is this Friday, May 15, the feast day of San Isidro Labrador, patron saint of Madrid. Although the fairgrounds of La Pradera opened earlier and the official program kicked off with Sonsoles Ónega's proclamation in Plaza de la Villa, the days of greatest attendance arrive now, between Friday, May 15 and Sunday, May 17. The official program includes concerts, chotis, parades, fireworks, workshops, magic, theater, children's activities and popular open-air dances.

Added to the festive agenda is also the San Isidro Fair in Las Ventas, one of the year's great bullfighting cycles, which takes place between May and June and turns the Madrid bullring into another focal point of these dates.

When are the San Isidro 2026 Festivities in Madrid

The central celebrations of San Isidro 2026 are concentrated between May 15 and 17, although the festive program and the fairgrounds of La Pradera began earlier. During these days, Madrid deploys free activities in various spaces of the city, with special prominence given to the Pradera de San Isidro, Las Vistillas, Plaza Mayor and Matadero.

May 15 is the most important day on the calendar. It is the day of the patron saint, the one with the greatest symbolic charge and also the one that will presumably gather the most public in La Pradera and on the main stages.

The classic image will be repeated: chulapos, chulapas, shawls, carnations, rosquillas, lemonade, gallinejas, live music and entire families descending towards the Hermitage and the San Isidro park. Madrid, when it gets traditional, doesn't disguise itself: it recognizes itself.

Where the party is: Pradera, Vistillas, Plaza Mayor and Matadero

The Pradera de San Isidro is the emotional center of the festival. There are located the fairgrounds, the attractions, the food stalls and a good part of the most popular activities. TIt is also the space most associated with tradition: pilgrimage, chotis, traditional dance, Madrid food and family atmosphere.

But San Isidro no longer fits solely in the Pradera. The official program distributes events across several venues. Plaza Mayor hosts major concerts and musical performances; Las Vistillas maintains its popular and alternative profile; and Matadero Madrid adds orchestras and activities within the festive circuit.

Free Concerts of San Isidro 2026: Fangoria, Los Chunguitos, Las Ketchup and more

Music is one of the main attractions of San Isidro 2026. The program includes more than 40 free concerts and performances spread across various city venues, with a very Madrilenian mix: pop, rock, flamenco, electronic, urban music, folklore, and popular music.

Among the highlighted names of the weekend are Los Chunguitos, Fangoria, Las Ketchup, Azúcar Moreno, Camellos, La Bien Querida, Baiuca, Las Migas, and La Paloma, according to the programming released for these festivities.

On Friday the 15th, the main day of San Isidro, notable performances include Las Ketchup, Los Chunguitos, and Azúcar Moreno in the Pradera; a tribute to Sara Montiel in Plaza Mayor; and Camellos in Las Vistillas. On Saturday the 16th, one of the main focal points will be Fangoria in the Pradera, while on Sunday the 17th, the closing will also feature a musical atmosphere and fireworks.

Bullfights in San Isidro 2026: Las Ventas concentrates the major bullfighting fair

San Isidro also means bullfights. The San Isidro 2026 Fair is held at the Las Ventas Bullring and is one of the most relevant bullfighting circuits on the calendar. According to official information from Las Ventas, the series includes 21 bullfights, 3 bull calf fights, and 2 *rejoneo* events, with rest days on Mondays, May 11, 18, and 25, and June 1.

Madrid's official tourist information places the San Isidro Fair between May 8 and June 14, 2026, with events at 7:00 PM at Las Ventas.

For those who want to include bullfights in their San Isidro plans, the reference is clear: Plaza Monumental de Las Ventas, on Alcalá street. The most direct Metro access is Ventas station, with connections on lines 2 and 5. The bullfighting fair operates in parallel to the city's popular festivals but is part of the same May Madrilenian imaginary: patron saint, tradition, street, and bullring.

Family Activities: Magic, Workshops, Theater, and Chotis

San Isidro 2026 is not just about nighttime concerts. The program includes family activities, children's shows, theater, magic, workshops, and events designed for children. La Pradera has areas aimed at families and traditional Madrid audiences, while other parts of the city complete the agenda.

The festival also preserves its traditional elements: popular dances, folklore groups, chotis, traditional interludes, and activities linked to Madrid's culture. The goal is for the program to work for everyone: for those who go with children, for those who want to listen to music, for those looking for the traditional pilgrimage and for those who simply want to eat donuts without apologizing to anyone.

Fireworks: when to see them

Fireworks are another classic moment of San Isidro. The program includes pyrotechnic displays in La Pradera during the main days, with special prominence on the festive closing on Sunday, May 17. The information published about the program places the end of the festivities with fireworks at 11:00 PM.

The recommendation is to arrive with some time to spare. La Pradera usually concentrates a large crowd in the hours leading up to it, especially if the weather is good and if concerts, dinner at the stalls, and the final show coincide.

Transportation in San Isidro 2026: Metro, EMT, taxis, and affected streets

Public transport will be key to getting around during San Isidro. EMT Madrid has announced bus service reinforcements between May 15 and 17, with special intensity on the 15th to facilitate access to La Pradera. The reinforcement affects lines such as 3, 17, 18, 23, 25, 34, 35, 36, 116, 118, 119, and 148, while on Saturday and Sunday, lines 17 and 25 will be particularly reinforced.

Metro de Madrid has also planned reinforcements for the festivities, especially on lines 1, 2, 3, and 5 during the busiest days. Line 5 is particularly useful for reaching the La Pradera area, with nearby stations such as Marqués de Vadillo, Urgel, and Pirámides.

By night bus, the area has lines close to the venue, such as N15, N16, and N26. Provisional taxi stands are also planned at points near the Ermita del Santo promenade and Vía Carpetana.

If you go to the Pradera, the golden rule is not to go by car unless there is no other option. There will be closures, restrictions, diversions, and a lot of traffic pressure in the surroundings of San Isidro park, the Ermita del Santo promenade, Vía Carpetana, General Ricardos, and nearby streets.

How it affects you if you go to the Pradera

If you plan to go to the Pradera this Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, the most practical thing is to organize your plan as if you were going to a big event: leave early, avoid the car, check public transport, and assume there will be crowds in the central hours.

The most sensitive periods will be Friday afternoon the 15th, Saturday night the 16th, and the closing on Sunday the 17th. There may also be a greater concentration of people before and after the main concerts and fireworks.

For families with children, it is advisable to arrive before peak hours, locate exits, meeting points, and nearby stations. For groups of friends, it is better to agree on a specific meeting place before entering the most crowded area. In San Isidro, getting lost in the Pradera is a tradition; finding each other again without battery is now an extreme sport.

What to eat in San Isidro: rosquillas, gallinejas, callos, and lemonade

Gastronomy is an essential part of San Isidro. Food stalls are concentrated in the Pradera with some Madrid classics: gallinejas, entresijos, zarajos, callos, calamari sandwiches, bravas, churros with chocolate, San Isidro rosquillas, vermouth, and lemonade.

The rosquillas have their own small universe: tontas, listas, de Santa Clara, and francesas. You don't need to choose sides, although Madrid will always appreciate it if you have an opinion even on sugar.

What to wear: chulapo, chulapa, or at least a carnation

It is not mandatory to dress as a chulapo or chulapa, but the interest in recovering traditional attire grows each year. The traditional costume has regained presence among young people, folk groups, and attendees who want to experience the festival with a complete Madrid aesthetic.

For them, the chiné dress, the shawl, the scarf, and the carnation. For them, the parpusa, the vest, the scarf, and the air of "I'm going down to the Pradera as if I were taking possession of the neighborhood."

Those who do not want to dress completely can opt for a simple nod: a carnation, a scarf, or some traditional detail. It is not a requirement, but it helps to get into the mood.

Can you drink in the street during San Isidro?

In the fairgrounds of the Pradera, alcohol consumption is permitted within the authorized framework for the festivities, according to the specific municipal regulation for the event. Outside of this environment, it should not be assumed that drinking in public spaces is allowed.

The practical key is to distinguish between the authorized fairgrounds and other areas of the city where there are concerts or activities.

The weather in San Isidro: rain this Friday and improvement over the weekend

The weather can condition the big day. The forecast for Madrid points to a cooler Friday the 15th, with intervals of clouds and sun and the possibility of some showers in the afternoon. For Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th, the scenario improves: more pleasant temperatures, highs around 21–22 degrees, and less risk of rain.

In practice, for this Friday it is advisable to bring a small umbrella or a light raincoat, especially if the plan includes spending several hours in the Pradera. For Saturday and Sunday, the weather will be milder, although it will continue to cool down at night.
