The collective Fiestes Populares has reiterated that the Festival 'Somos Más' will take place this Saturday, September 19, in the Plaza de la Catedral of Oviedo, after clarifying that the municipal resolution only rejects the extension of hours and the special conditions requested, but "still allows the uses already granted" weeks ago for the celebration of concerts in that same place.

In a note disseminated by AMA Asturies, the collective explains that the request to extend the stage hours and obtain additional loading and unloading permits was submitted due to the "growing citizen interest" generated by the announcement of the festival. The City Council has specified that in the authorized space only "exclusively the activities, hours, and conditions previously authorized" can take place.

In this context, Fiestes Populares has confirmed that the concerts planned within the framework of the festival will be held "within the hours and conditions that the City Council continues to authorize," and has criticized what it interprets as an attempt to contain the social response against "the fascist and homophobic aggressions" suffered by AMA Asturies members Rubén Rosón and Jorge Fernández last Thursday during the San Mateo festivities.

The collective has expressed its position after a week in which it has reported new vandalistic attacks against LGTBIQ+ and anti-racist symbols installed in its booth, as well as the harassment of a worker at the Fiestes Populares booth.

The convening entities have insisted on the "festive and in accordance with the law" nature of the event and have called on the population of Oviedo and the entire region of Asturias to participate in the planned mobilizations for this Saturday, September 19, which will start at 7:00 PM in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and will continue afterwards to the Plaza de la Catedral.

At this last location, the collective has scheduled, starting at 8:30 PM, a festival that will include a surprise performance, along with concerts by Marisa Valle Roso, Ramses, and Ambás and Dixebra.

The resolution of the City Council of Oviedo bases its "no" on the reports issued by the Local Police, the Fire Extinction and Rescue Service of Oviedo, and Civil Protection, which advise against holding the event as it coincides in date and time slot with other large-scale events of the San Mateo 2026 festivities in the city, including the Day of America Parade in Asturias.
