The president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, has claimed this Tuesday the necessity for institutions to always act within the framework of the Rule of Law in the face of those who try to seek "shortcuts".

He made these statements during the inauguration ceremony of the new members of the Comissió Jurídica Assessora, Manuel Odón Mayo Gómez, Josep Maria Aguirre i Font, and Belén Noguera de la Muela, held at the headquarters of the Generalitat. These positions are appointed for a term of 6 years, with the possibility of a single renewal for another period of 6 years, and the composition of the body is renewed by thirds every two years.

The president has emphasized that institutions must always act within a framework of Rule of Law, which he has defined as "the cornerstone" of democratic coexistence.

"There are always people, especially in these last months and years, who seek shortcuts. There are no shortcuts. The best shortcut is to adhere to the rule of law, to adhere to the framework of coexistence and to change, when appropriate, that framework of coexistence that we must create," he said.

Illa has pointed out that the Comissió Jurídica Assessora, like the Consell de Garanties Estatutàries, are part of the institutional architecture of Catalonia, and has assured that they are "very relevant" to ensure the legal rigor of the decisions of the Govern and their compliance with the framework of coexistence established by the Constitution and the Estatut d'Autonomia.

Likewise, he has conveyed his recognition and gratitude to the outgoing members of the commission, Albert Lamarca, Esther Arroyo, and Agustí Cerrillo, after six years of service in the institution.
