The general secretary of the PSOE in Castilla y León, Carlos Martínez, has highlighted the resignation of the now former minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, stressing that with his resignation he has set a benchmark "as a person, as a member and as a political leader," understanding it as a sign of firm convictions, commitment, and a vocation for public service.
"Óscar's decision speaks to a way of understanding responsibility that goes beyond positions and party acronyms. And it does not erase a record of commitment to public life," says the PSOE's regional leader, who warns that in politics you cannot act in any way, and adds: "Especially in the face of a tragedy. Some of those who today rush to demand accountability should remember how they acted when it was time for them to take on theirs. There are mirrors that return uncomfortable images."
Martínez emphasizes that Puente's resignation reflects a certain way of conceiving institutional responsibility "that goes beyond positions and party acronyms," as he has indicated in a message shared from his personal account on 'X'. In that post, he stresses that he knows Óscar Puente well, "the politician and, above all, the person," in order to highlight his convictions, his honesty, his degree of commitment, and the importance that the former minister gives to public service.
"I know that behind today's decision there is a person who is not unfamiliar with the pain of the victims and their families," Carlos Martínez states, who insists that the victims must always be placed "at the center." "Their pain deserves respect, prudence, responses, and truth. No interested haste or political calculations," he adds in his message.
"Respect, responsibility, rigor, and reparation. All my respect and support for the victims and their families. My most sincere embrace to Óscar. Thank you, comrade," concludes Carlos Martínez, who thus closes his public defense of the former minister after announcing his resignation.
