The majority of the commissions that have sustained for more than a month the encampment for the right to housing in Puerta del Sol have decided to dissolve, and their members have chosen to leave the camp in order to continue their work "in the neighborhoods," according to a statement from Acampada 26S.
The statement explains that the collective is beginning its move "to the neighborhoods" with the aim of consolidating itself as a working-class social movement and bringing its presence in Puerta del Sol to an end. From now on, its spokespersons will concentrate efforts on organizing and supporting the general strike scheduled for November 11, as 'El País' reported this Saturday.
"The encampment has achieved immense goals and expectations, reminding us that the people have many tools for direct political intervention," the statement says, which also underscores that the initiative will continue defending its demands "no matter who leaves and whoever is in the Congress of Deputies after the elections of 29N."
However, part of the encamped have chosen to remain in the square, so two of the commissions that have been present since the beginning of the settlement will remain operational.
The Government Delegation in Madrid sent last Monday a letter to the representatives of the encampment in Puerta del Sol in which it urged them to dismantle the camp, considering that a "reasonable time" has already elapsed since its start and that the circumstances and demands of the protest "have changed".
This was indicated to Europa Press by sources from the Government Delegation, who specify that this was one of the last decisions of Francisco Martín before his resignation, aligned with the line of action of the body and of the new delegate, Pilar Trinidad.
At the same time, the Community of Madrid announced this Friday that it has filed a criminal complaint before the Court of First Instance of Madrid against the former Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, for alleged offenses of administrative prevarication for not intervening to clear Puerta del Sol and for omission of the duty to prosecute crimes that "are being committed continuously in the illegal encampment" of Puerta del Sol.
