The councillor and spokesperson of the Generalitat de Cataluña, Sílvia Paneque, has explained that president Salvador Illa has wanted to highlight in the Consell Executiu the "values of honesty and honorability that have always characterized Eduard Rivas's career", after he submitted his resignation as chief of staff, a decision that was conveyed to the media this Monday.

In the press conference following this Tuesday's Consell Executiu, Paneque has emphasized Illa's recognition and gratitude toward Rivas and has indicated that the until now head of the Cabinet will continue "working from the socialist project".

The spokesperson has stressed that the reasons for Rivas's resignation "are clear", that it responds to a personal decision, and that the Govern is limited to publicly conveying the determination that he himself has adopted.

The until now secretary of Local Governments and Relations with Aran, Xavier Amor, will assume the position of new chief of staff to Illa in place of Rivas.

At the end of April of this 2026, Illa confirmed his trust in Rivas after it became known that he was being investigated for alleged irregularities during his time as mayor of Esparreguera (Barcelona), and defended keeping him in the responsibility he held.
