Florentino Pérez referred to a journalist as “that girl” this Tuesday at a press conference when giving her the floor and also questioned the football knowledge of another journalist.

The Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, has described those words from the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, as “machismo”, which, in her opinion, “are anachronistic and denote age”.

“I believe that in Spain those types of comments are already anachronistic and denote, I believe, age. I hope that younger generations also raise their voices against that anachronistic and somewhat tacky machismo,” the minister assured in statements to the media during her visit to the 028 headquarters.

"Structural machismo"

In this regard, Redondo has pointed out that it is a matter of "evident, anachronistic machismo that is absolutely out of place". "It seems to us to be another expression of this machismo that is installed and that we see daily, which is transversal, which responds only to a very deeply integrated macho culture in people's lives, especially in the lives of some older people". "And in that sense, raising our voice again against structural machismo that unfortunately expresses itself as we have seen," she has pointed out.

For her part, the Secretary of State for Equality, María Guijarro, has asked for “professional respect” for sports journalists in a message published on the social network X.

“Sports journalists deserve professional respect. They should not be infantilized, ignored, or questioned because they are women. The sexist contempt for these journalists only tells us that we have to keep fighting against structural sexism in sports,” he/she/they have underlined.
