The president of Iryo, Carlos Bertomeu, has conveyed a message of condolence to the relatives of the fatal victims and to the injured of the railway accident recorded in the municipality of Urda, in the province of Toledo, where the official toll stands at 64 dead after the collision between a Renfe train and another Iryo train.
From the scene of the disaster itself, and in response to the media, he explained that he is going through a moment of "deep mourning and pain" in the face of an event that, in his words, "should never have happened."
"The causes will be investigated, we are at the disposal of the authorities, but it is a regulated sector. There is a commission that studies the accident, and the first purpose of the investigation is to know what happened so that this does not happen again, because this is sincerely terrible. I am infinitely sorry," he stated, underscoring the importance of letting those responsible for clarifying what happened work.
After expressing his condolences, Bertomeu reiterated that he makes available "all the company's means to help the families of the injured and to make available all the logistics that are needed at this time," offering operational support and accompaniment to those affected by the tragedy.
Likewise, he wanted to publicly recognize the action of the State Security Forces and Corps, whom he thanked for their work in the emergency tasks and in the management of the situation generated by the accident.
