The damage caused to municipal property by the disturbances recorded last Monday in the Bilbao neighborhood of Deusto, during the protests in Bilbao called against an event by the agitator Vito Quiles, finally suspended, amounts to around 65,000 euros, according to the data provided by the Bilbao City Council.
Added to the 55,000 euros in material damages that the mayor, Juan Mari Aburto, had already estimated on Monday, due to the damage caused by hooded individuals, in incidents that ended with 17 arrests, are now the 9,600 euros corresponding to the value of the Municipal Police motorcycle that was completely burned out.
From the city council they have pointed out that this economic estimate does not include the costs of the special Cleaning, Firefighters and Municipal Police devices activated as a result of the clashes, so the total impact on the public coffers would be even greater.
In the incidents, a total of 38 containers burned and significant damage was recorded in different elements of urban furniture, in addition to the motorcycle of a Municipal Police officer that was set on fire. To this tally of damage must also be added five vehicles that were completely burned out.
