The Labor Inspection, informed of the fatal accident in Osuna

After the death was reported, the Emergency Service 112 Andalucía has communicated what happened to the Center for the Prevention of Occupational Risks and the Labor Inspection, the competent bodies to examine the circumstances in which the accident occurred. For the moment, the causes that led to the overturning of the harvesting machine have not been clarified, nor have details emerged about the conditions of the terrain, the operation of the vehicle, or the existing safety measures on the agricultural farm.

The accident occurred during the olive harvesting campaign, one of the main economic activities of the agricultural sector in the province of Sevilla. During these tasks, it is common to use specialized machinery to expedite the harvesting, an activity that requires specific preventive measures due to the risks associated with handling agricultural equipment.

CCOO denounces 28 work-related deaths in Sevilla during 2026

The union Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) of Sevilla has lamented the death of the worker and has warned that, according to its records, this is the 28th fatality due to a work accident in the province so far in 2026. The organization has called for strengthening occupational risk prevention measures, especially in agricultural operations during periods of higher activity.

The Secretary of Labor Health of CCOO of Seville, Carmen Tirado, has highlighted the importance of ensuring adequate training for workers responsible for using agricultural machinery. In this regard, she has pointed out that it is "fundamental" for employees to have all the necessary safety systems and for the work areas to be properly conditioned, with potential hazards marked to reduce the risk of accidents.

Tirado has also reminded that the current campaign for harvesting agricultural products requires taking extra precautions and fulfilling preventive obligations by companies. "From CCOO we will be very attentive to clarifying the circumstances of this fatal accident and we will demand that all responsibilities be clarified in case they exist", stated the union representative.

Accidents with agricultural machinery, one of the risks of the Andalusian countryside

The death recorded in Osuna brings the focus back to the occupational accident rate of the Andalusian agricultural sector, where vehicle overturns, entrapments, and runovers with machinery are among the main risks associated with this activity. According to data from the Ministry of Labor collected by the USO union, Andalusia recorded 75 fatalities in occupational accidents between January and August 2026, eight more than during the same period of the previous year.

In the whole of Spain, 49 workers in the agricultural sector lost their lives in occupational accidents during the first eight months of 2026, compared to 36 recorded in the same period of 2025. Of these, 43 died during the workday and six during work-related travel.

The fatal accident this Saturday in Osuna thus adds to the incidents recorded during the year in the sector, while the specific circumstances that caused the machine overturn and the death of the 34-year-old worker remain to be clarified.
