The Great Wine Capitals network recognizes the solidarity wine tourism project developed by the organization at the Conde de los Andes winery
The MAGA Foundation of Muriel Wines has received the international Best Of Wine Tourism Global Award 2027, an award granted by the World Network of Great Wine Capitals (Great Wine Capitals). The recognition has been granted in the category of Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices, highlighting the social work of the solidarity wine tourism project that the entity develops at the Conde de los Andes winery, located in Ollauri, La Rioja.
The official announcement of the award was made during the 26th Annual Conference of Great Wine Capitals, held recently in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. This award comes after the prior recognition obtained on October 8, 2026, when the MAGA Foundation was distinguished with the Best Of Wine Tourism Bilbao-Rioja 2027 award. The international distinction values the organization's ability to integrate the social dimension of sustainability within the wine tourism offer, connecting the wine-growing heritage with international cooperation in countries such as Cambodia, Sierra Leone, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The MAGA Foundation, created in 2009 by the Murúa Gangutia family, focuses its activity on education and vocational training projects aimed at improving the living conditions of children and young people. Among the actions carried out, the construction of schools, the installation of water wells, and the development of training programs stand out. An example of this impact is the Casa Leone project, located in Sierra Leone, whose first group of young people specialized in hospitality training graduated in May 2026.
The Conde de los Andes winery provides an informative space in its 16th-century cellars, where visitors can learn about the history and the results of the Foundation's humanitarian work. The proposal includes solidarity visits that are held on the first Saturday of each month, as well as the marketing of solidarity wines, such as the Poipet brand. The entity has confirmed that 100% of the income generated both by the visits and by the sale of these wines is allocated entirely to financing the international cooperation projects that the organization supports.
After more than 16 years of trajectory, this international recognition represents a milestone in the history of the Murúa Gangutia family and the Muriel Wines team. The organization has expressed its gratitude to Great Wine Capitals for valuing an initiative that demonstrates the compatibility between wine tourism, culture, and global solidarity, underscoring its intention to continue promoting educational opportunities that facilitate the development of vulnerable communities.
