Spanish campgrounds face the upcoming Halloween long weekend with an average occupancy forecast of close to 70%, and with numerous establishments that have already hung out the full sign, according to the data released by the Spanish Camping Federation (FEEC). The trade association underlines that many inland sites, which under normal conditions end the season at the beginning of October, have opted to keep their doors open at least until these dates.
"More and more travelers are looking for camping in autumn and the establishments have responded by extending their season. Halloween is one of the dates that best shows this," said its president, Ana Beriain, in a statement.
The FEEC attributes this high demand to the fact that the long weekend is a holiday in much of the autonomous communities and to the fact that camping offers an ideal setting to recreate a terrifying and thematic atmosphere.
During these days, numerous campgrounds are transformed with spider webs, pumpkins and eerie corners, while the entertainment teams design a special program aimed at all members of the family, according to the federation.
Among the most in-demand offerings are decoration contests for pitches and bungalows, as well as costume contests, which in some sites also include a specific category for pets. Added to this is the traditional trick or treat through the accommodations and pumpkin workshops, terrifying makeup and face painting.
The leisure program is completed with horror tunnels and passages, in addition to activities designed for the rest of the public, such as storytelling sessions, costume parades and collective outdoor dances.
