The Independent Union of Civil Servants and Employees (CSIF) has made its legal services available this Thursday to Adif staff, after one of its employees was publicly singled out following the railway accident recorded yesterday in the province of Toledo.
The CSIF spokesperson, Pedro Poves, has emphasized that "public employees always give the best of themselves when a misfortune occurs" and has pointed out that the staff of Renfe and Adif are "devastated" after what happened. "We are not going to allow them to be left at the mercy of the wolves," he stressed.
Poves has described as "infamy" the leak of recordings with part of the previous conversations to the disaster between the staff of the Adif center in Atocha and the train drivers involved in the accident.
"Enough is enough. From CSIF we demand the resignation of Óscar Puente. It is unacceptable that he publicly points to an Adif worker as a scapegoat when the investigation has just begun," Poves stated, adding that "when there is a leak in the hull, the captain of the ship must protect his sailors, not throw them overboard".
Along these lines, the union representative has asked that the presumption of innocence be respected and that the facts be clarified "to the end".
Likewise, he has denounced as "an infamy for any type of worker" the dissemination of the recordings and has insisted that the organization is not going to tolerate "that a person be criminalized when the technology failed", warning furthermore that "that line has gone years without being modernized".
"It will have to be the technical investigation and Justice who determine what happened, not a minister in a press conference," the union spokesperson has maintained.
Finally, Poves has recalled that CSIF already put on the table last September "the excess of workdays at Adif" and the "staff shortages". "Or is it that workers are also to blame for the incidents in circulation, for the stoppages in the journeys, for the delays in arrival times suffered by all those who take a train for months now?", he has asked.
