Hochtief has closed an agreement with SachsenEnergie for the design and construction of a "modern" river water treatment plant intended to supply the semiconductor industry in Dresden (Germany), as communicated this Wednesday.

The amount of the contract amounts to "several hundred" million euros. The work is expected to start in mid-2027 and, from 2030, the facility will supply industrial water from the Elbe River to companies located in "the largest semiconductor cluster in Europe," the company indicates in a statement.

The German subsidiary of Grupo ACS will carry out the project through a two-phase contracting model, with a first design stage until April 2028. After construction, a one-year operational testing period and a "several-year" maintenance contract are foreseen.

The group details that the order includes the delivery of a large-capacity water treatment plant, which covers the construction, installation engineering, and process engineering, and that the plant will act as a central water supplier for the semiconductor industry in the German region.

The CEO of Grupo ACS and Hochtief places this project within the construction company's strategy focused on future markets with strong growth potential, such as semiconductors, energy, and sustainable infrastructure.

"By combining our expertise in design, execution, and operations, we contribute to ensuring the supply of essential industrial water, while supporting the sustainable development of an important European technology hub," he affirms.
