Iberpapel closed the first nine months of the year with losses of 6.439 million euros, compared with the profit of 5.3 million euros recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal year, a turn explained by the impact of "extraordinarily demanding" energy and market conditions, according to the company.

The company’s net revenue reached 169.832 million euros between January and September, which represents an increase of 2.55% compared with the first nine months of 2025.

The group’s gross operating result (Ebitda), dedicated to paper and energy activity, fell to 1.76 million euros at the end of September, which represents a decline of 88.65% compared with the 15.542 million euros obtained a year earlier.

The company detailed that the third quarter was marked by "a new and sharp increase in energy costs," stemming from the worsening of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the risks linked to the Strait of Hormuz.

In parallel, the European paper market recorded a deterioration in demand during the quarter, with particular intensity in August and September, in an environment of mismatch between production capacity and consumption, together with strong competitive pressure.

On the commercial front, Iberpapel stressed that it has managed to maintain much of the recovery in its selling prices begun in April and that it continues to drive its diversification strategy, with a 5% increase in the sales volume of specialty papers, which already account for around 34% of total paper sales.

In the industrial sphere, the company explained that it has implemented energy optimization measures and operational improvements in its facilities and processes. These works were completed during the annual shutdown in September and their effects will begin to be seen after they come into operation. In this regard, it highlighted that in October decreases in energy costs are already beginning to be observed thanks to these initiatives.

Alternatives for transforming its energy model

At the same time, the group indicated that it continues analyzing various options for the transformation of its energy model, with the aim of diversifying supply sources, structurally reducing the energy needs of production processes, in particular thermal ones, limiting exposure to the volatility of energy prices, advancing in the decarbonization of its operations and strengthening its long-term competitiveness.

However, it specified that these possible actions continue in the technical and economic study phase, and that no definitive decisions have yet been made regarding their scope or their execution.
