The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, communicated this Tuesday in the Permanent Assembly his decision to leave office, a determination that he made after the Urda (Toledo) rail tragedy, in which at least 69 people lost their lives.

"A transport minister in a country like Spain cannot continue in his position with two accidents of this severity in less than a year. No matter how different they are, and whether or not he has direct responsibility for them, it is a matter of political dignity, of coherence and of empathy with the victims," he said during his appearance before the Permanent Assembly.

In that session of the Permanent Assembly, convened to explain the incident from last Wednesday, both the opposition groups and the majority of the usual parliamentary allies of the Government demanded the resignation of the head of Transport for this tragedy, the second that affects high-speed rail this year so far, after the one that occurred in Adamuz (Córdoba) last January, with the only exception of EH Bildu.
