The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration and Government spokesperson, Elma Saiz, made it clear this Monday that the Executive is not considering modifying the current retirement rules, ruling out both extending the pension calculation period and increasing the years of contributions required to receive them. At the same time, she has claimed the solidity of the public system against the "falsehoods" of the PP.

"Absolutely, extending the pension calculation period or increasing the required contribution years is not contemplated," the minister defended, highlighting that there are currently 2.5 contributors per pensioner - a level not recorded since 2010 - more than 22.6 million affiliates, and a 'pension fund' that will close the fiscal year around 20 billion euros.

In statements to the SER chain, collected by Europa Press, the Social Security head has firmly denied that the system is at risk of collapse with the retirement of the 'baby boom' generation.

"In no way," Saiz emphasized, reiterating that the reforms undertaken "arise from social dialogue," have the consensus of the European Union, and are designed precisely to guarantee the viability of the pension system until 2050.

Furthermore, Saiz downplayed the contributions from the State intended to finance pension spending: "The fact that the system is also fed by contributions from the State is something absolutely normal, it happens in systems similar to ours and should not be counted as something extraordinary," she defended.

New increase in the interprofessional minimum wage

On the other hand, the head of Inclusion has assured that the Government will again increase the interprofessional minimum wage (SMI) and has accused the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, of showing "a significant technical ignorance" about the taxation of this wage threshold.

Saiz has confirmed that the Executive will maintain the path of SMI increases in 2027, --an announcement that could occur before the general elections on November 29-- and that it will remain exempt from taxation in the IRPF.

In the political arena, Saiz has attacked Feijóo for presenting himself as a feminist while voting against, for example, the supplement for reducing the gender gap.

In this sense, he demanded "a little seriousness, respect, and rigor when referring to half of the population," alluding to the more than 10.5 million women who actively contribute to Social Security.
