The TeHagoHueco platform, which emerged as a result of the Urda railway accident (Toledo) and the successive train cancellations, has been launched to offer, free of charge, an alternative means of travel to those who need to travel between Madrid and Andalucía.

It is a citizen initiative, they stress that it does not operate like a company, is completely free and is non-profit. It does not charge commissions or process payments, and limits itself to facilitating contact between passengers who cannot use the train due to the cancellations and drivers who make the free seats in their cars available.

Drivers also do not obtain financial benefits, since the only planned outlay is the equitable sharing of the journey expenses, such as fuel and tolls, when the trip is not offered for free.

From the platform, they insist that it will only remain operational “while high-speed Madrid-Andalucía services continue to be disrupted and there are people who need them. Afterwards it will be closed and all data will be deleted”.

The project’s driving force is young entrepreneur Nicolás Renedo, who has worked at Telefónica and Accenture, an expert in agentic AI applied to banking and insurance, and holds an MBA Tech degree from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas ICAI-Icade. According to what “Escudo Digital” reports, he developed the tool in a single night.

Using TeHagoHueco is simple: the person driving accesses with their Google account and posts the trip by indicating origin, destination, date and time, number of available seats, possible intermediate stops, and a brief description, and also specifies whether the journey is completely free or if costs are shared.

Travelers, for their part, can search for options by filtering by origin, destination, date, and number of seats, either in a list or by viewing it on a map, and also sign up by identifying themselves with Google.

Subsequently, the driver and passengers agree—through an internal private group—on the exact meeting place and, if they wish, can add a link to a WhatsApp or Telegram group accessible only to the people registered for that trip.

The platform’s people in charge emphasize: “We are not a transport company nor an agency. We do not verify vehicles, drivers or passengers beyond logging in with Google, and we are not part of the agreement you reach with each other”, and they recall that the project was created “in memory of the victims of Urda”.

Other car-sharing initiatives and support on the AVE network

After the rail disaster, other proposals have also emerged to facilitate mobility alternatives or additional advantages for those who have been affected by the suspension of high-speed trains between Madrid and the south of the country.

Among them is BlaBlaCat, a solidarity car-sharing system between both areas driven by the actress from Cádiz Lourdes Llebrez and the Andalusian group "La gata" following the accident in Adamuz (Córdoba), and which has been reactivated after what happened in Urda, according to what "Canal Sur" had previously reported.

Likewise, Waiis said this Wednesday that it will allow people to locate car-sharing trips that run parallel to the high-speed corridors in Spain and that it will grant additional advantages to those who previously used the train.

Specifically, this Spanish shared mobility platform will roll out from next Monday, November 9, a new feature for all users of its app in Spain. This tool will automatically identify car-sharing trips that match the main long-distance rail corridors and will apply extraordinary bonuses to passengers.

When someone enters their starting point and destination, the system checks whether the trip overlaps with any of the main axes of the AVE network.

If the user previously used the train for that route and meets the program requirements, Waiis will grant them an "additional exceptional bonus" on top of the platform’s usual discounts. This is explained in a statement in which it emphasizes that the implementation of this measure "has been accelerated" after the Urda rail accident.
