Telefónica has announced that it will carry out an unprecedented improvement and reinforcement of its communications network on the occasion of the pastoral tour of Leo XIV, which will take place between June 6 and 12 and will include stops in Madrid, Barcelona, and the Canary Islands (Gran Canaria and Tenerife), as the operator detailed this Friday in an informational note.

In this context, Telefónica will act as the official technological collaborator for the Pope's visit to Spain, taking on the task of ensuring communications for both the pontifical retinue and the organization accompanying Leo XIV throughout his pastoral journey.

"During the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Spain, we are putting all our technological and human capacity at the service of an event of great social relevance, guaranteeing robust connectivity for all attendees, as well as for the personnel who carry out their professional activities," commented the president of Telefónica Spain, Borja Ochoa.

Within this reinforcement plan, the company has specified that it will deploy four mobile units equipped with "high-performance" 5G technology and ten satellite backpacks in "key points" to increase coverage, given the high concentration of people expected at the scheduled events.

In addition, a "special team" of Telefónica technicians will be mobilized to provide on-site support in a "24x7" mode, with the aim of monitoring network performance in real-time and being able to act immediately if any incident is detected.
