The heads of list of the Por Andalucía coalition for the regional elections of May 17, Ernesto Alba (IU) and Alejandra Durán (Podemos), have participated this Saturday in the march to the US military base of Morón de la Frontera (Seville), called by the Andalucía por la Paz Platform, where they have demanded that the autonomous community stop having United States military installations in its territory.
The also general secretary of the Communist Party of Andalusia (PCA) and spokesperson for Izquierda Unida (IU) Andalusia, Ernesto Alba, has highlighted that with this mobilization they proclaim "no to war, to any war", and has defended that "this rejection is especially urgent today, because we are facing a conflict initiated in a completely unilateral manner by the United States and Israel, outside of international institutions".
"It is not a minor issue," emphasized the lead candidate of Por Andalucía for Málaga, who criticized that the US and Israeli governments, headed by Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, respectively, "feel they are above the world order, above the security of the peoples of this planet, and above their own allies."
"They represent a real danger to the survival of humanity. They are the Nazis of the 21st century," stated emphatically Ernesto Alba, who, as noted, has insisted on IU's "historical position" regarding Spain's membership in NATO, which he considers "a mistake and an acceptance of the supremacy of American imperialism over Europe."
In line with that approach, the IU leader has maintained that "NATO was, has been, and is an instrument at the service of the interests of the United States". "One only needs to listen to the subservience of the Dutchman Rutte to understand it," added the IU spokesperson, who in this context has called for "a serious debate about the real costs of accession, which translates into an absurd loss of sovereignty".
Alba has thus demanded "the withdrawal of US military bases from Andalusian territory", starting from the idea that "Andalusia is a land of peace that does not want American bases on its soil". "We cannot be accomplices, not even indirectly, of the illegitimate and illegal actions of those who are no longer an ally, but a rival who respects no rule or norm," she has stressed.
The candidate for Por Andalucía has valued the stance of the central Executive, although he has demanded that it advance "further". "We are pleased with the Government's brave stance, the result of the pressure from the peace movement and the transformative forces that support it. But we must be consistent: we cannot stop halfway. We must fully reclaim our territory, a part of which is today at the service of the interests of the United States," he stated.
Alba has closed her speech with a call to the social majority: "We are convinced that the vast majority of the Andalusian people and the Spanish people share this need. Today we are here to say it loud and clear," she concluded.
Alejandra Durán rejects foreign bases in Andalusia
For her part, the number two of Por Andalucía to Parliament for Seville, Alejandra Durán, has questioned "the international policy being carried out by the United States", and has denounced the "model that is leading us to a particularly worrying situation in Andalusia due to the fact of having two foreign bases that we do not want here".
"We do not want them because we understand that the best defense for Andalusia is to reduce military spending and allocate" that money "to what is truly important, healthcare, education, dependency and others," Alejandra Durán has stressed, who has warned against "an international policy model led by the United States that is dragging us into a very serious international situation, devastating peoples and with numerous deaths behind it."
The also leader of Podemos has underlined that from Andalusia they have "very clear that we do not want nor should we be accomplices" of that strategy, and for that reason "we say that we do not want to be part of NATO", and that "we want foreign bases out of Andalusia, because there is another model of care where peace goes through guaranteeing and providing security in the day-to-day lives of Andalusians", Alejandra Durán has finished.
