The attack in Krakow has a second scene: the home of the man detained for firing on passers-by in the city center. Officers have found three corpses there, as the Polish prime minister, Donald Tusk, confirmed during his appearance this Saturday night.

The residence is located in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, outside Krakow. The Police in that region have confirmed the discovery of two women and one man and are continuing their proceedings at the property. Tusk explained that the first indications point to the suspect’s close relatives, without considering his identification complete.

The three corpses do not correspond to the victims of the square

They are two different scenarios. In the center of Krakow, the attack left six dead and a score of injured. The other three bodies were found during the investigation at the home of the detainee.

The discovery makes it necessary to clarify what happened in the home and how it relates to the subsequent shooting. The information released about the finding still does not make it possible to determine when those three people died or reconstruct the full sequence.

Tusk received the confirmation while appearing before the media. Initially, he said that there could be people who had died inside the property and, afterwards, he announced that the agents had confirmed the three deaths.

What is known about the detainee and his route through Krakow

Reports from the authorities gathered by Polish media identify the detainee as a 24-year-old Polish citizen. He was injured during the confrontation with the Police and taken to hospital.

The attack began shortly after 15:00 in the vicinity of the Market Square. According to the City Hall, the attacker fired from a vehicle and also hit a tram in Todos los Santos Square: it broke a window in the cabin, although neither the driver nor the passengers were injured.

Officers intercepted the suspect near the intersection of Dietla and Stradomska streets. The investigation holds that he acted alone during the attack; the involvement of a second shooter has not been confirmed.

Interior is investigating a possible far-right motivation

Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński has pointed out that the first indications suggest the suspect’s fascination with far-right ideologies. The minister himself has specified that this line needs to be checked.

The statement places the possible ideological component among the key elements of the case, but by itself does not establish the detainee’s membership in an organization. The investigators must determine his motivations and whether he received inspiration or help from other people.

The origin of the weapons, another piece of the investigation

The agents found more weapons and ammunition in the vehicle. Its provenance is one of the aspects still pending clarification.

According to Wirtualna Polska’s journalistic investigations, the suspect had a sports license and had two registered weapons. The outlet also attributes to his father the possession of another eleven and notes that the car was in his name.

These data do not automatically identify the weapon used in each scenario. The experts must check which ones were fired, who they were registered to, and whether they had undergone modifications.

Two police officers injured and evidence to reconstruct the attack

Two officers were injured during the intervention. The Interior Ministry has reported that one of them is in a very serious condition after receiving three gunshots and has argued that the police response prevented more victims.

The inquiries include reviewing security cameras and analyzing the seized material. To this reconstruction of the route through Kraków, further steps are now added at the home in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski and the identification of the three people found dead.
