The Assembly of Extremadura will hold a minute of silence as a sign of "respect" toward the victims of the accident between the AVE train 2080 and the Iryo train 6076, which occurred this Wednesday in the Toledo municipality of Urda.

This tribute will take place at the doors of the parliamentary headquarters once the debate on the entirety of the General Budgets of Extremadura (PGEx) for 2027 concludes, which has been taking place since first thing in the morning in the regional chamber, in Mérida.

The measure has been communicated by the first vice president of the Assembly, Domingo Jesús Expósito Rubio, after a 10-minute recess requested to agree with the spokespeople of the different parliamentary groups on the institutional response to the accident in Urda.

After that pause, and following the meeting with the spokespeople, Expósito has informed that the plenary session will continue normally and that, once the scheduled votes finish, that minute of silence will be observed.

"The recess has been motivated with the aim of discussing with the spokespeople of the different groups the situation of the tragic accident with so many dead that has occurred this morning and for the purpose of taking the decision regarding the parliamentary processing. We are going to continue with the plenary session and we are going to hold a minute of silence in respect for the victims at the end of the votes, at the doors of the Assembly", the vice president of the Extremadura chamber has explained.

In his intervention, he has asked the deputies to maintain "the due respect" during the rest of the session and that, once the votes on the amendments in full submitted by PSOE and Unidas to the PGEx 2027 conclude this Wednesday, "also in a mode of respect and silence, go to the doors of the Assembly "in silence" to observe that "minute of remembrance" for the victims of the accident in Urda (Toledo).
