Spanish town halls are holding the draws to appoint the members of the polling stations for the general elections of next November 29, 2026. Thousands of citizens will be selected to serve as presidents, members, or substitutes during election day, although not all will learn the result at the same time. The schedule established by the Ministry of the Interior sets the draws between October 31 and November 4, so some municipalities have already carried out the appointment while others still have the procedure pending completion.
One of the main doubts among voters is how to know whether they have been chosen to be part of a polling station before receiving the official notification. The answer depends on the town hall, since some city councils have enabled individual consultations on their websites, while others inform about the draw and directly communicate the appointments to the selected people. In any case, receiving the notification is essential, since it marks the start of the legal deadline to submit an excuse if there is a justified cause that prevents attending.
How to know if you have been assigned to a polling station in any municipality in Spain
To check whether you have been chosen as president, member, or substitute in the general elections of 29N, the first step is to go to the official channels of the municipality in whose electoral census you appear. There is no single state consultation that allows all polling station appointments to be checked, so each town hall may establish its own information mechanisms.
-
Access the official website of your city council. If you do not know the address, you can find it through the directory of local entity portals of the General State Administration. This resource allows you to find municipal pages, but it does not show the results of the electoral draws.
-
Look for the section on the general elections of 29 November 2026. You can use terms such as "electoral board draw", "board members" or "general elections 29N". It is important to distinguish between queries to find out whether you have been appointed and those that only indicate the polling station where you are assigned to vote.
-
Check whether there is an individual inquiry or contact Citizen Service. Some municipalities allow you to enter identifying data to find out the result. If only a notice of the draw appears, you can ask the city council whether it has another inquiry system. In any case, you do not need to request notification of the appointment, since the Administration must officially communicate it to the designated people.
Official inquiries available by municipality
The following links allow access to municipal information on the 29N draws. Not all are individual search engines: some city councils offer a direct inquiry and others publish information about the procedure and notifications.
Official inquiries available by municipality
| Municipality | Official link | What you can consult |
|---|---|---|
| Donostia / San Sebastián | Consult designation | Individual inquiry to find out whether you have been chosen as a board member. |
| Logroño | Draw information | Date of the draw and notification procedure. |
| Madrid | Municipal information | Draw, notifications and procedures for submitting excuses. |
| Zaragoza | Electoral information | Electoral information and municipal channels. |
| València | Elections portal | Official information on the 29N elections. |
Can’t find your municipality? This table brings together a selection of official links that we have been able to verify. The fact that your locality does not appear does not mean that you are ruled out. Check the elections section of your city council or ask at its Citizen Service office how it communicates the result. Even if there is no search engine on the internet, they must notify you personally if you have been designated president, member or substitute.
When they notify you that you are president, member or substitute
The Ministry of the Interior establishes that the draws to constitute the polling stations for November 29 must be held between October 31 and November 4. Once the draw has been carried out, the appointment must be notified to those concerned within three days, as established by the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime (LOREG). Together with the appointment, the corresponding instruction manual is provided.
This means that there is not a single day for receiving notifications throughout Spain. The schedule depends on when each municipality has held the draw. For example, if a city council carries out the selection on Wednesday, November 4, the legal three-day period runs until Saturday the 7th. Therefore, not having received a notification this Monday, November 2 does not mean that you have not been assigned to a polling station.
There are also differences in the communication systems. In Madrid, the City Council has announced the sending of notifications with acknowledgment of receipt and their availability at the municipal electronic office. For its part, the Logroño City Council has indicated that the appointments will begin to be notified immediately after the draw by means of accredited personnel.
What to do if you have been assigned to a polling station and cannot attend
Being part of a polling station is a legal obligation, both for the chairpersons and regular members as well as for the substitutes. However, the regulations contemplate certain personal, family, and professional circumstances that may justify the impossibility of carrying out the position.
The designated persons have seven days from receipt of the official notification to submit their objections before the corresponding Zona Electoral Board. The request must include the reason why they cannot attend and the documentation that makes it possible to prove it. The period does not begin to count from the holding of the draw or from the moment its result is consulted online, but from the notification of the appointment.
Among the situations that may justify an excuse are certain health problems, family responsibilities, or professional circumstances provided for by electoral regulations. However, submitting an objection does not mean being automatically exempt, since it is up to the Zona Electoral Board to examine the documentation and decide whether to accept or reject the request.
For this reason, it is important to keep the communication received and follow the instructions that accompany the appointment. If the impediment appears after the initial deadline, it must be communicated to the Zona Electoral Board as soon as appropriate, in accordance with the deadlines provided for in the legislation.
Where to consult the polling station at which you have to vote on 29N
It is advisable to distinguish between having been chosen to be part of a polling station and knowing the place where you must vote. They are two different inquiries and should not be confused.
If you only want to check which polling place you must go to on November 29, you can use the official consultation of polling stations and polling places of the National Institute of Statistics (INE). This service allows you to search for the polling place corresponding to an address and does not require identification by means of an electronic certificate.
The Electoral Census Office has also announced the sending of census cards starting on November 2, in which voters are informed of their polling station and voting place. However, the fact that an assigned polling station appears for voting does not mean that you have been selected to chair it or act as a member. To learn of an appointment as a polling station member, you must use the enabled municipal channels or wait for the official notification.
