The Fundación Contra la Hipertensión Pulmonar has unveiled RECÉTAME, an initiative designed to bring its resources and services directly closer to consultations and hospital units, with the aim of offering support and assistance to those who receive a diagnosis of this condition.

As the entity explains, RECÉTAME was created with the intention that health professionals can recommend to patients with pulmonary hypertension something that goes beyond drug treatment, incorporating reliable and accessible information, ongoing support, psychological support, specific training, and social guidance for both those affected and their families.

"When you are diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension you don't just need to address the treatment. You need to understand what is happening to you, where you are going to be treated, and that someone accompanies you along that path. That is RECÉTAME: that the doctor can prescribe us, to the Foundation, as part of the treatment", the vice president and expert patient, Salvador Calderón, explained during the II Jornada de Actualización en Hipertensión Pulmonar, organized by the foundation.

With this proposal, the foundation aims for people newly diagnosed and their family environment to have, from the outset, a clear reference to the existing resources and to be aware that they have a specialized organization that can be by their side during all phases of the disease.

Within this framework, the entity emphasizes that pulmonary hypertension not only affects the physical sphere, but also entails a significant emotional, family, social, and economic impact. For this reason, it considers it essential that patient care incorporate a comprehensive approach, in which support and psychosocial assistance are added to highly specialized medical care.

The II Jornada de Actualización en Hipertensión Pulmonar has brought together professionals from cardiology, pulmonology, internal medicine, pediatric cardiology, nursing, and anesthesiology, among other disciplines, with the purpose of updating knowledge and advancing early diagnosis and the multidisciplinary approach to this rare, serious, and progressive disease.

Throughout the lectures, the latest updates in hemodynamic diagnosis have been addressed, monitoring through catheterization and echocardiography, the new therapeutic options available, and the key role of anesthesiology in risk procedures for people with pulmonary hypertension.
