The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the nuclear agency dependent on the United Nations, has communicated this Friday that a drone attack has occurred against a cooling tower of the Russian nuclear power plant in Kursk, located in the west of the country.
"The IAEA has been informed that the cooling tower of a reactor unit at the Kursk nuclear power plant, in the Russian Federation, was hit by a drone in the early hours of Thursday," it has pointed out on its social networks.
According to the information provided to the agency, the unit was in operation at the time of the drone impact, although the incident did not cause any fire nor forced a modification of the plant's operation, which continued with its usual activity.
The IAEA has emphasized that "all attacks against nuclear facilities are unacceptable, as they could endanger nuclear safety, regardless of where they occur," in the words of its director general, Rafael Grossi, who has urged to maintain "the utmost military restraint to avoid the risk of a nuclear accident."
