The newly appointed president of Paraguay, Pedro Alliana, has set as the central pillars of his term the strengthening of public health and the return of savings to Paraguayan citizens, as he has outlined in his first appearances after taking over as head of state.

In the health sector, Alliana met with the Minister of Health, Isaías Fretes, to analyze the most urgent shortcomings of the public system, focusing on the purchase and distribution of medicines in hospital centers. "We are going to work so that our fellow countrymen do not lack the medicines or the medical care they need," he said in a post circulated on social media.

At the same time, he highlighted progress in the process of returning funds to the "savers," with payments already made to nearly 1.2 million accounts for an amount that exceeds 996,000 million guaraníes (about 140 million euros). Along these lines, the Presidency stated that transfers will continue to be made throughout the weekend and insisted that his "priority is for savers to get their money back."

In addition, Alliana assured the payment of pensions and extra payments to all retirees of the Instituto de Previsión Social (IPS), with the intention of guaranteeing stability and economic certainty for Paraguayan households.

Pedro Alliana took the oath of office this Friday as the new president of Paraguay, after the removal and arrest of Santiago Peña, who the previous day submitted his resignation in the context of a political trial against him over a financial scandal related to Ueno Bank, whose serious liquidity crisis has temporarily left millions of depositors, including pensioners, unable to access their funds.
