At least four people have lost their lives this Sunday in central Colombia, among them a newborn girl, following the explosion of a truck bomb in the municipality of Planadas, in the department of Tolima. The authorities are keeping an investigation open to clarify the authorship of the attack.

The governor of Tolima, Adriana Magali Matiz, has communicated through her social media a provisional tally of the attack, which leaves "an initial toll of four people dead, among them a baby of just two months of life".

Matiz has described the attack as "inadmissible" and has called for "justice and forceful actions to stop this barbarity". While waiting for some group to assume responsibility for the attack, it should be noted that southern Tolima records an intense presence of FARC dissidents, among them the Ismael Ruiz Front.

The explosion has also caused serious damage to nearby homes and to the Centro Hospital of the municipality. Given the magnitude of the damage, the mayor of Planadas, Juan Camilo Hueje, has decreed the curfew and has ordered the evacuation of the hospital center.

The injured, whose number has not yet been specified, are being treated provisionally in a nearby school, adapted to provide the necessary medical care.
