On Wednesday, the Chinese Executive stated its willingness to "continue working" with the United States to "build a constructive relationship" after the midterm elections held in the North American country—elections that Beijing considers "an internal matter" on which it avoids commenting.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, stressed that "the 'midterms' are an internal matter of the United States" and emphasized that China "is willing to continue working to maintain and implement the important consensus reached" by the presidents of China and the United States, Xi Jinping and Donald Trump, respectively.
As reported by the Chinese newspaper 'Global Times', the authorities of the Asian country also aim to "strengthen communication, handle differences appropriately, expand cooperation and build a constructive relationship of strategic stability grounded in respect, justice and reciprocity".
On the internal U.S. political front, the 'midterms' have dealt a severe setback to Trump’s Republican Party, while the Democrats have put on one of the best nights in their recent history, fulfilling the most favorable forecasts to gain control of both chambers of the U.S. Congress.
