The mission of China to the European Union (EU) has expressed its "deep dissatisfaction" and has registered an official protest with the community institutions following the approval of a report by the European Parliament on the political relations between both parties, a text that Beijing qualifies as "plagued by ideological prejudices" and containing incorrect assessments about China.

A spokesperson for the Chinese diplomatic delegation has denounced that the document interferes in the internal affairs of the country regarding Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, Tibet, and Human Rights. Furthermore, Chinese authorities accuse the Eurochamber of promoting the "politicization" and "securitization" of economic and trade issues.

In this context, the Chinese representation has demanded that the EU act in accordance with the spirit of its partnership, that it "seriously" respect its essential interests, and that it stop fueling confrontation, demanding concrete measures to ensure a healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.

The reaction from Beijing comes after the approval of a recommendation from the European Parliament, supported by 454 votes in favor, 86 against, and 110 abstentions, which urges the EU institutions to apply a firmer and principle-based policy towards China, combining dialogue with a greater defense of European interests.

The report emphasizes that the ties between the EU and China have reached a critical point, attributing it to the economic practices considered unfair by Beijing and its position on the Russian war against Ukraine.

In this regard, the Eurochamber expresses its deep concern over verified reports indicating that the Chinese Army has trained Russian military personnel to fight in Ukraine, and calls for coordinating actions with the United States and the G7 to pressure Beijing to use its influence over Moscow to end the war.

In the economic sphere, the European Parliament warns of the growing challenges arising from China's excess industrial capacity, state aid, and the market access barriers faced by European companies.

The MEPs demand reciprocity conditions and support a proportionate response from the EU if China does not facilitate the opening of its markets, advocating for a strict risk reduction strategy focused on key sectors such as critical raw materials, batteries, electric vehicles, or semiconductors.

The text also calls for an end to repression and the unconditional release of political prisoners. Likewise, the parliamentarians express their serious concern about the policies applied in Tibet and Xinjiang and about the implementation of the Law for the Promotion of Ethnic Unity and Progress, warning that it could further consolidate assimilationist policies in the Asian country.
