At least one person has lost their life this Wednesday in an explosives attack that occurred in a town in the department of Cauca, in the southwest of Colombia.

The dead victim is a 20-year-old young man who worked as a barber in the municipality of Patía to "support his family (...) older adults and a five-year-old sister," as the department's undersecretary for Peace and Governance, Diana Murillo, has said, who has expressed her sorrow for what happened.

In an appearance on the Colombian radio station Blu, Murillo explained that "a van adapted with ramps, with explosives, was activated 100 meters from the police station and also in front of a place where there were several specialized centers for barbering".

As a result of the explosion, two elderly women were injured and were immediately evacuated to the hospital in the municipality of El Bordo, where they were admitted with a diagnosis of "serious".

The country's president, Abelardo de la Espriella, has rejected "with all firmness" what he described as a "terrorist attack," whose authorship has not yet been claimed by any group.

In a long message shared on social media, the head of state described the explosion of "against the Police Substation of El Estrecho" as a "criminal act that deserves all of Colombia's rejection".

De la Espriella said he was "deeply" saddened by the existence of victims and assured that he would find "those responsible for this appalling terrorist act." "I warn you: we are going to find them, we are going to pursue them, and we are going to capture them. I have ordered the deployment of all the capabilities of our Public Force to identify the authors of this attack and bring them before justice," he added.
