Mobilizations in defense of the right to decent housing have gained strength in Portugal, where thousands of citizens have once again taken to the streets of the country's main cities to demand the resignation of the Government, after the latest evictions carried out by the Police against the encampments set up as part of these protests.

Political and social tension continues to increase as Parliament addresses the debate on the 2027 Budget, a process that arrives heavily conditioned by the growing unrest in the streets, particularly by the disturbances and police charges recorded in recent days.

The demonstrators have gathered again in front of the Assembly, from where they have reiterated their intention to keep the marches going until they achieve the full resignation of the Executive and have again called for immediate measures to tackle the housing access crisis.

At the same time, they have called on the unions to support the strike of November 11 called in Spain and have appealed to citizens to participate in the mobilizations scheduled for November 14 throughout Portuguese territory, according to information published by the Portuguese newspaper "Publico".

Housing prices have doubled since 2017 and new rental contracts have almost doubled as well. This situation especially affects young people, given that wages have not evolved at the same pace. It is for this reason that many demonstrators are calling for the bill to be withdrawn, which would facilitate evictions and eliminate caps on new rents.
