The United States Coast Guard has launched a broad search operation to try to locate a medicalized private plane that disappeared with six occupants on board in the Atlantic, near Boston, while making a flight between Bermuda and this U.S. city.

It is a Gulfstream G100 operated by Latitude Air Ambulance, which lost contact with air traffic controllers on Saturday morning. According to NBC News, aircraft and vessels have already been mobilized to search the area.

The flight had a medical purpose and was making a medical transfer from the island of Great Bermuda, according to Clarence Togeretz, the operations director of Latitude Air Ambulance.

"We are always concerned when our staff does not communicate at the scheduled time, but we are going to be optimistic and positive and say that this does not mean that the worst has happened," he stated in remarks to NBC News.

The Massachusetts Port Authority, the agency that manages Boston Logan International Airport, has confirmed that the aircraft did not land at the scheduled time. At this moment, search efforts are concentrated in waters near the town of Nantucket.
