The French department of Pyrénées-Orientales remains this Sunday in a situation of orange alert due to rains and floods, in light of an episode of precipitation that could leave between 80 and 120 millimeters, with peaks of up to 160 millimeters of water per square meter in specific areas.
Météo-France has detailed in its bulletin this Saturday at 16:00 hours that "A new active system of rains and thunderstorms moving from Spain will affect the Pyrénées-Orientales from the end of the night on Saturday until Sunday, causing heavy rains and significant accumulations of precipitation."
According to the forecast, showers and thunderstorms will be recorded from the night of Saturday until Sunday, especially in the eastern half of the department, where the precipitation will last throughout the day.
In parallel, "persistent rains" are forecasted in the department of Aude from the night until the early morning, so "it is possible that the level of meteorological alert in this department will be raised."
The departments of Hérault and Aude have remained this Saturday under orange alert for rains and floods for several hours. In relation to this situation, Météo-France has pointed out that "The system of rains and storms affecting the Gulf of León since this morning is moving away from the department of Hérault, losing intensity."
