The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergei Lavrov, claimed this Monday the strategic collaboration of Moscow with Iran during his official visit to Tehran, emphasizing that Russian nuclear experts are returning to the Bushehr plant, the only civil nuclear power plant in operation in Iranian territory.
In a joint appearance with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, and according to the Tass agency, Lavrov stressed that "Despite the difficult situation, which has been mentioned repeatedly, Russia has no intention of abandoning the implementation of economic and investment agreements with Iran."
Regarding the civil nuclear program, the head of Russian diplomacy specified that specialists from his country "are gradually returning to the Bushehr nuclear plant," thus reinforcing cooperation in this sensitive area.
Lavrov insisted that Moscow has demonstrated "in practice" that it fulfills the commitments made with Tehran and rejected "the attempts to justify aggression against Iran at the United Nations," marking a distance from international pressures.
The minister also highlighted the positive evolution of trade ties between both countries: "The volume of trade exchanges increased by 21% last year and more than 10% in the first eight months of this year," he noted, while emphasizing that the trade agreement signed between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union in May of last year has given an additional boost to bilateral exchange.
