The British Police admitted this Saturday that in 2019 it received a letter in which "several accusations" were made regarding the alleged possession of child pornography by the American cinematographer Thomas Markle, father of the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.

According to Scotland Yard, that information was passed on to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's team for their knowledge, but it was not referred to other official bodies, such as the Prosecutor's Office or other competent authorities.

On Friday, it emerged that images of abuse of minors may have been found in Markle's former home, 82 years old, in the Philippines. However, he has denied that such material belongs to him. Meghan Markle, for her part, released a statement in which she admits that in 2018 she received news of "disturbing accusations" about her father, with whom she has a distant relationship.

The first information about the Police's actions was disseminated by the British tabloid The Sun, which later added that the letter included direct allegations of sexual abuse against Markle.

"After a thorough review of the systems and files of the Metropolitan Police, we have confirmed that in January 2019 we received a letter with several accusations about alleged crimes outside the United Kingdom (...) It was referred to the Protection Command of the Metropolitan Police to examine the security of the Duchess of Sussex," Scotland Yard has stated.

After that internal analysis, it was decided to forward the letter to the office of the Dukes of Sussex so that they would be informed. "The details of the accusations in the letter were not referred to other bodies," adds the police force.

Thomas Markle moved to the Philippines last year after going through various health problems. He currently resides in a rehabilitation center in Florida, where he is trying to regain mobility after the amputation of a leg in 2025.
