The Armed Forces of Germany have increased the assessment of the risk posed by Russian sabotage against its own infrastructures and, after an internal review motivated by the incidents of recent months, now classify it as "significant".

The German Ministry of Defense has confirmed this change in threat level to "significant", after various media in the country revealed that internal documentation from the Bundeswehr updated the state of alert following episodes such as the drone that crashed in mid-September near the Wunstorf airbase in the Hannover region.

According to these media, Russia "has almost certainly had the capability for quite some time and, very likely, now also has a greater intention" to act against units and targets of the Bundeswehr. The purpose of these actions would be to undermine Germany's military and political support for Ukraine.

In the civil sphere, Berlin had already pointed to Moscow as responsible for the attempted attack with drones equipped with explosives against Leipzig airport last August.

This airport serves as a key point in the logistics of transporting armaments, including shipments related to the war in Ukraine. Since the Russian invasion began, there has been an increase in reconnaissance flights and sightings of drones over critical infrastructures and military targets in Germany.
