The Government of Peru has decided to remove Commissioner Víctor Revoredo Farfán from the head of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (DIRINCRI) of the National Police and assign him to the Directorate of International Affairs, after the complaint against him presented by journalist and candidate for regional governor of Áncash Susy Isabel Aponte Polo, known as "La China Polo," came to light, who attributed to him having planned her assassination days before she was shot dead during a campaign event.
The movement at the police top brass appears in the official newspaper of the country, where Keiko Fujimori appears as president of Peru, and includes the transfer of Revoredo from DIRINCRI to International Affairs within a list of nearly twenty changes of assignment, all justified "by necessity of service."
The replacement of the head of Criminal Investigation occurs after the homicide of "La China Polo" this Saturday at a rally in the city of Caraz, in northwestern Peru. Nine days earlier, the candidate and communicator had publicly pointed to the then head of Criminal Investigation of the Police as the supposed intellectual author of her death.
"I have received calls from three prisons warning me that this Mr. Víctor Revoredo Farfán has ordered an attack against me. I have already filed the complaint with the corresponding entities," she stated.
Moments after the crime, police agents arrested a 29-year-old Venezuelan citizen, identified as Luis Obispo Díaz, in possession of a pistol. So far, neither the Police nor Revoredo himself have offered explanations about the possible motivations for the murder.
The position left vacant by Revoredo will be assumed by Ricardo Espinoza Cuestas, who until now served as police chief in the La Libertad region, also in the northwest of the country. This area includes Trujillo, the scene on August 30 of the death of four people and the kidnapping of mining businessman Jenss Lara, an episode that had placed Revoredo at the center of controversy in recent weeks.
