The Israeli Armed Forces have communicated this Saturday that their units deployed in southern Lebanon opened fire on "terrorists" who approached Israeli forces, without specifying at the moment if the incident has left dead or injured.

"In the last 24 hours, IDF forces operating south of the Yellow Line, in southern Lebanon, identified terrorists who violated the ceasefire agreements and approached the forces from north of the Yellow Line, posing an immediate threat," the Israeli Army explained in a statement.

The Israeli military command considers the incident a "ceasefire violation" attributed to the Hezbollah party-militia. "After their identification, and in order to eliminate the threat, the IDF carried out precise attacks against the terrorists and against terrorist infrastructure sites," Israel has explained.

According to this report, the Israeli Air Force and ground units "attacked terrorists in several areas of southern Lebanon". In parallel, artillery fire was carried out in support of the troops on the ground and "terrorist infrastructure" was destroyed.

The Army has also indicated that "several incidents have been recorded in which terrorists violated the ceasefire agreements by approaching from the north of the Yellow Line".

Israel insists that its soldiers "are authorized to take the necessary measures for self-defense against threats." "Self-defense operations and the neutralization of threats are not limited by the ceasefire," the Armed Forces have underlined.

"The Israel Defense Forces will continue to work to clear the area under their control and eliminate any threat to the citizens of the State of Israel and its armed forces," they stressed.

Application of the "Yellow Line" in Lebanese territory

Israeli military sources have confirmed to CNN that they are already employing the "Yellow Line" concept previously used in the Gaza Strip in Lebanon. This line delimits the area up to which the Israeli Armed Forces will intervene and affects the residents of the 55 Lebanese localities located within that perimeter, where the Israeli Army will continue to destroy "terrorist infrastructure".

The ceasefire came into effect at 0:00 on Friday, April 17, after nearly a month and a half of intense fighting that began on March 2, when Hezbollah launched projectiles against Israel in retaliation for the assassination of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the offensive launched on February 28 by Israel and the United States against the Asian country. The Israeli response led to a new large-scale offensive and a ground invasion of Lebanon, which has left nearly 2,200 dead since then.

Before this escalation, Israel and Lebanon had reached a ceasefire in November 2024, after thirteen months of clashes triggered by the attacks of October 7, 2023. However, since that agreement, Israel maintained frequent bombings on Lebanese territory alleging that its targets were Hezbollah positions, while Beirut and the militia repeatedly denounced these operations.
