An Argentine opposition deputy registered this Wednesday in Congress a formal request for the Foreign Minister, Pablo Quirno, to appear and give explanations about the stopover made in Argentina by Flávio Bolsonaro during his escape to the United States, despite having his passports canceled.
The initiative, driven by legislator Pablo Juliano, of the center-right coalition Provincias Unidas, calls for the chief of diplomacy to be "summoned" before the full Chamber of Deputies so that he may "provide detailed, precise and documented explanations" about the entry and subsequent exit of the Brazilian senator and former presidential candidate from Argentine territory.
The request appears in a document released by Juliano on his social networks, where he questions that Bolsonaro could enter the country "despite" the prohibition on leaving Brazil decreed by the Supreme Court and mentions "the possible intervention of Argentine officials" who would have facilitated the movement.
The document also seeks to clarify "the participation of the company Baires Fly S.A.", linked to businessman Sergio Mastropietro — prosecuted for alleged corruption and money laundering linked to the National Disability Agency (ANDIS) —, as well as the "institutional and diplomatic consequences for bilateral relations" between Argentina and Brazil.
The text, which poses 91 questions directed at the Foreign Minister, seeks to "determine whether Argentine territory was used to facilitate the international departure of a person subject to judicial restrictions imposed by the competent authorities of a foreign State".
Among other issues, it asks whether there was prior knowledge, coordination, assistance or intervention by national officials; whether public resources, security devices, intelligence or airport services were used to carry out the transfer; and whether the National Executive Branch respected its international commitments of judicial cooperation, good faith and reciprocity among States.
"Flávio Bolsonaro was forbidden to leave Brazil. He entered Argentina through (the province of) Misiones and that same night took off from Puerto Iguazú in a private plane. Quirno has to explain to Argentines whether the State helped him escape. Foreign policy cannot be a club of friends of the far right who cover for one another," the deputy has said on his social networks.
Criminal complaint against Milei over the Bolsonaro case
Parallelly, President Javier Milei has been denounced for "aggravated cover-up, abuse of authority and violation of the duties of a public official and embezzlement" in the context of Bolsonaro's escape.
The judicial filing, promoted by the deputy of the Frente de Izquierda Gabriel Solano, also targets "Intelligence, security and diplomacy officials for the impunity granted" to the former presidential candidate, according to Solano himself explained on his social media, where he made the document public.
"Milei has been a fundamental part of an international conspiracy directed by (the U.S. president, Donald) Trump to help Flávio Bolsonaro evade the investigation of the Justice of Brazil, even using assets of the Argentine State itself for this purpose. His top adviser Santiago Caputo, who is in charge of the SIDE (Secretaría de Inteligencia de Estado), traveled to Puerto Iguazú to personally direct the escape. This clandestine action constitutes an event of unusual seriousness," he added.
Flávio Bolsonaro, investigated for a presumed money laundering and irregular foreign financing of his campaign, entered Argentina at 22:50 hours (local time) by land, through the Tancredo Neves International Bridge —which connects the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguaçu with the Argentine Puerto Iguazú—, as confirmed by the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones (DNM).
According to the newspaper 'La Nación', Bolsonaro and his relatives were escorted by the Policía de Seguridad Aeroportuaria from the border crossing to the runway of the airport in the province of Misiones, from where he departed to Ecuador, the last stop before arriving in Miami.
