The Paris Police Prefecture has decided to prevent the holding of a protest march against "the genocide in Gaza," scheduled for this Wednesday, as it coincides with the anniversary of the attacks launched on October 7, 2023, by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other armed factions, which caused around 1,200 fatalities in Israeli territory.
"At the request of the Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, I have issued an order prohibiting a demonstration "against the genocide in Gaza and for respect for the ceasefire" in Paris on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. "This date marks the third anniversary of the terrorist attack by Hamas against Israel and will lead to numerous commemorations," indicated the Paris Police Prefect, Patrice Faure, in a statement released on social media.
The police official emphasized the "significant risks of disturbances to public order" associated with this call, which French authorities place in a scenario of "elevated terrorist threat" and an increase in incidents of an anti-Semitic nature.
"In light of this, in particular, and in view of all the identified risks, my responsibility is to ensure the safety of all. Therefore, I have decided to prohibit this demonstration," concludes Faure regarding the mobilizations called in the French capital.
In the United Kingdom, British police called on students last Friday who have organized a demonstration to denounce the situation in Gaza next Wednesday, October 7, to change the date of the protest as it coincides with the Hamas attacks in Israeli territory and to understand that for many "it will be a day of mourning and reflection" and pointed out that vigils for the dead in the terrorist attacks will be held.
