The Attorney General of Brazil has expressed this Tuesday its approval for the son of Jair Bolsonaro and presidential candidate, the far-right Flávio Bolsonaro, to return to his father's residence, who is under house arrest as part of his sentence for attempted coup d'état and is under a 90-day visitation suspension regime that concludes this Sunday.
"Considering the absence of new facts indicating a breach of the established conditions or the need to extend the previously determined restrictive measure, the Attorney General of the Republic has no objections to accessing the request made," affirmed the Attorney General, Paulo Gonet, according to the Brazil news agency.
Gonet's stance responds to the request of Judge Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), who asked him to express his opinion on the request presented by Bolsonaro's defense. In that document before the Supreme Court, the lawyers argued that "it is no longer necessary to maintain an exceptionally restrictive visitation regime, and it is possible to restore them immediately."
It was De Moraes himself who ordered at the time the suspension of visits from Flávio to Jair Bolsonaro after the former disseminated a letter in the name of the ex-president, thus violating one of the precautionary measures established for him to serve his sentence of 27 years and three months in prison for leading a coup attempt between 2022 and 2023 against the then-president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is now seeking to remain at the head of the Planalto palace.
